CNC SHARPIE™ HOLDER
Now in gray anodized finish.
Use the drop down menu to choose which writing tool(s) you want with your tool (Fine Tip shown in photo above). Price will update when added to cart. Insert substitutions can be made, just specify in order comments.
NEW MODEL: 7/8" BODY (ER32)
Drastically shorten tool length when using this in a 7/8" ER32 collet. Tool length is shortened by about 2.5" compared to standard tool in BT30 ER32 colet chuck. Most of the tool's body can be submerged inside the collet. This is beneficial to fit in some machines ATC system. 7/8" collet can be added to your order here: ER32 7/8" Collet
Benefits of using a Marker Tool with your CNC machine:
-Spring loaded travel compensates for any small surface height variations so tip will not get flattened. Enables consistent, high quality results. Also allows variable writing pressures for different materials.
-Not gravity-dependant: use in any orientation (aerospace machines, robots, etc.)
-Trace outlines on material before machining to help visualize toolpaths
-Trace clamp locations to prevent collisions
-Trace and verify tiling of large parts with multiple setups
-Trace outlines on spoilboard for double sided tape workholding
-Artwork, menu boards, temporary signs.
-Trace work to transfer to other machines (drill press, bandsaw, etc.)

History of the CNC Marker Tool:
To the best of our knowledge, this tool was developed in the aerospace industry for use doing program verification. When a new machine or NC program was started up, this tool was used to mark drilled hole locations on the airframe part. A transparency plotted with the correct hole locations was overlaid on the part and the NC program was verified to make sure the locations match. This prevented scrapping very expensive parts. It is still used today for this purposed along with many other uses throughout industry and beyond.
Writing implements explained:
We use writing tools that are available around the world. They all can be easily found at local or online retailers.
Standard Marker – This is the common Sharpie™ Marker. They are everywhere and also come in metallic colors. Sharpie™ calls the “fine tip”
Compact Marker – This is the Sharpie™ Mini Marker.
Ultra Fine Marker – Sharpie™ Ultra Fine Tip Marker, not to be confused with the regular “fine tip” Sharpie™ Marker.
Ball Point Pen - Uni-ball™ Micro 60151
Pencil – Generic pencil with 8.0mm diameter
Shown here loaded in ER32 7/8" collet in BT30 ER32 collet holder. Note minimal stick out (this may vary depending on tool holder type). Tool Tightening Fixture, tool holder, and collet are not included.
